Truth or Dare Drinking Game: Rules for a Great Night
Truth or dare and drinks have been party partners forever — the drink is what makes "pass" an actual decision instead of a free exit. Here's how to run the drinking version so it stays what it's supposed to be: hilarious, revealing and remembered fondly. For adults of legal drinking age; always drink responsibly.
The core rules
Normal truth or dare flow: the group (or the bottle — rules here) picks a player; they choose truth or dare.
Complete it → you're safe. Answer the truth honestly or do the dare, and the turn passes.
Pass or fail → take a drink. Refusing a truth, chickening out of a dare, or doing it half-heartedly (group vote) costs one drink.
The group can "double-dare". Once per round, the group may raise the stakes: complete it and assign your drink to someone else; refuse and take two.
Whoever just played picks the next player — or spin the bottle to keep it random.
Better than "just drink": forfeit menu
The best drinking games give options. Instead of every penalty being a sip, offer a menu — the player picks one:
Take the drink (the classic).
Answer a "double truth" — two questions, no passing.
Let the group choose your next dare with no veto.
Hand your phone to the group for one (1) post-worthy photo.
Do the "walk of shame": one lap of the room narrated dramatically by the group.
Non-drinkers play the same game with the menu minus the sip — nobody's excluded and the game loses nothing.
